Description

[edit ]

The goal of this WikiProject would be to accurately make articles on railroads who lack articles and improve the accuracy and information of already-existing articles on railroads located in the United States. XXCooksterXx (talk) 22:14, 10 May 2018 (UTC) [reply ]

Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?

Because the Trains WikiProject doesn’t have a US task force/ related project, so i am proposing one is created.

Support

[edit ]

Support I support this project due to the fact that the US has a highway wikiproject, but no rail-specific project. The US is large and therefore needs its own rail project. Yes, the Trains WikiProject does cover the United States, but there is not a United States specific branch or anything like that, which is why i propose this project. If enough support is found for creation of this project and enough members apply, maybe we can have a North American Rail Transportation WikiProject instead. India, the UK, and Japan all have rail WikiProjects, but not the US. Its time we made this project.XXCooksterXx (talk) 01:00, 11 May 2018 (UTC) [reply ]

  2. Support, given that UK, Japan, India have separate projects; US rail is far substantial enough to need this, or even a branch of WP Trains. ɱ (talk) · vbm · coi) 14:38, 25 May 2018 (UTC) [reply ]
  3. Do it as a taskforce/workgroup of Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains , which is already set up for this and has one for Germany. The others should be merged into it as taskforces as well. SMcCandlish ¢ 😼 03:50, 10 November 2018 (UTC) [reply ]

Discussion

  • If anybody wants to create a North American Rail Transportation WikiProject instead of just an US one, it would be perfectly fine for me. Any feedback is helpful for this. XXCooksterXx (talk) 00:47, 11 May 2018 (UTC) [reply ]
  • I don't think that a full WikiProject would be a good idea, it would duplicate too much of WP:TRAINS. However, I have no objection to setting up a subproject of Trains in much the same way that WP:UKRAIL is a subproject of Trains. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:11, 11 May 2018 (UTC) [reply ]
  • Redrose, i think that having a subproject could work instead of a separate one. I see what you are saving. Or maybe a task force. Could maybe more people give their opinion on this possible new WikiProject? XXCooksterXx (talk) 20:25, 11 May 2018 (UTC) [reply ]
  • I tend to agree with Redrose64 that this isn't necessary and would create unnecessary overhead. What problem would this solve? Mackensen (talk) 16:32, 14 May 2018 (UTC) [reply ]
  • It would solve having no specific WikiProject for US trains. We need a wikiproject to create articles on railroads here in the US that somebody from, lets say australia has never heard of? See the point? XXCooksterXx ❯❯❯ talk? 03:14, 28 May 2018 (UTC) [reply ]
    • No. That's tautological, circular reasoning. Lack of a specific wikiproject for US trains isn't a problem to solve and is not a reason to have a wikiproject for US trains, any more than your chocolate cake not having shrimp and garlic on it compels you to put shrimp and garlic on your cake. This proposal is reasonable as a taskforce/workgroup of the existing project. SMcCandlish ¢ 😼 23:17, 18 February 2019 (UTC) [reply ]
