This is an information page.
It is not an encyclopedic article, nor one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines; rather, its purpose is to explain certain aspects of Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Organizing disambiguation pages by subject area . It may reflect differing levels of consensus and vetting.

Long disambiguation pages are best organized by subject.

To quickly get readers where they want, in addition to writing good entries:
DO:
Use clearly defined subject headings
Imitate similar pages
Use subsections as needed
Usually keep (sub)sections to 3-12 entries
Put unsorted entries below in "Other uses"
DON'T:
Don't combine unrelated subject headings
Don't use headings that overlap, if possible
Don't use bold or semicolons for headings
Don't leave unsorted entries floating [a]
Don't list fictional and real items together
