- Information Note: This formal merge proposal was incorrectly opened on the article's talk page. Following the March 2026 RfC, formal merge discussions are now held at AfD rather than the historical Proposed article mergers process (PAM). I've moved the discussion accordingly per WP:TPO.
- Proposed merge into 2026 Delhi Jantar Mantar protest
I propose merging Sansad Chalo March into 2026 Delhi Jantar Mantar protest. The march appears to be a single phase of the broader Jantar Mantar protest movement rather than a standalone topic. Most of the article's background duplicates material already covered in the parent article, and much of the remaining content (the march itself, police response, casualties, negotiations, and reactions) substantially overlaps with the existing "Sansad Chalo March" section there. Merging would reduce content duplication, improve maintenance, and keep coverage of this ongoing protest in a single comprehensive article, while preserving all notable information through appropriate summarisation.

- Oppose - It was a major standalone event with significant developments and was independently notable. In Transit (talk) 04:58, 22 July 2026 (UTC) reply
- Strong oppose: The march is a notable event and while it was a phase of the broader Jantar Mantar protests, the coverage it received easily qualifies it for a standalone article per WP:GNG. — EarthDude (Talk) 05:33, 22 July 2026 (UTC) reply
- Clarification - Just to clarify, my proposal is based on editorial organization rather than notability. I agree the march has received significant independent coverage. However, independently notable topics may still be merged where doing so reduces duplication and results in a more coherent organization of content (see WP:MERGE). My concern is that much of the background and event coverage overlaps with 2026 Delhi Jantar Mantar protest , where the march is already covered in substantial detail. In my view, an expanded section there could preserve all notable information while avoiding overlapping coverage. Wikipicked (talk) 05:41, 22 July 2026 (UTC) reply
- There's a lot the main article doesn't cover. It'd be better to expand this article instead rather than merging it. — EarthDude (Talk) 05:59, 22 July 2026 (UTC) reply
- It can be split per procedure when such expansion or development actually takes place. Wikipicked (talk) 15:56, 22 July 2026 (UTC) reply

- Oppose - I disagree with Wikipicked's argument here - merging would clutter up the article. This organization system is effective, and this march meets notability. Jishara (talk) 14:13, 22 July 2026 (UTC) reply
- Oppose - The march is a notable event in itself. Brown Chocolate (talk) 15:30, 22 July 2026 (UTC) reply
- Oppose - A merge would blur the distinction between the overall protest and a defining event within it. Keeping a separate article maintains a clear historical record and avoids giving undue weight to one phase in the parent article.Ferdous 19:06, 22 July 2026 (UTC) reply

- Oppose- CJP protest at jantar mantar was called by abhijeet and Sansad Chalo March called by Mr.Sonam. These two events interlinked and single event.
- Timeline:
- Cjb creation-->Protest call at J.mantar-->support from public +respected figures--> Sonam wanchuk joins and starts anshan after that he called march.
- Both pages are independent and merging them may not be good.

- OPPOSE
- Looking at the intensity of the events unfolding at Delhi, this deserves a proper page for 3 reasons:
- 1) The Jantar Mantar protests started 1 month ago, and everything revolved around the silent peaceful protest and Hunger strikes and focus around Sonam Wangchuk
- 2) The Sansad Chalo March should be mentioned in the 2026 Delhi Jantar Mantar protest, but a detailed page must exist separately to properly capture the police brutality, and intense state organised violence that is ongoing even now.
- 3) The March and the following police actions drew widespread criticism against the state and many public figures joined the this movement and now the crowd has retreated to Jantar Mantar, bringing the topic back to the 2026 Delhi Jantar Mantar protest
- Though the March is a part of the Jantar mantar Protest, its sequence of events should be properly detailed in a separate page to avoid confusion. Zolven (talk) 08:29, 23 July 2026 (UTC) reply
- OPPOSE - I oppose merging these two pages because the events of July 20, including the police response to a peaceful protest, make this event notable enough for a separate article. In my view, no comparable protest has occurred in the past 10 years, and it deserves its own page rather than being merged with the 2026 Jantar Mantar protest page.
- The article should remain under the name Chalo Sansad, the recognized name of the movement. Rather than nominating it for merger again, editors should improve the article by adding reliable sources, expanding its content, and improving its overall quality. - Oppose merge – Per the consensus above, the March received substantial independent, in-depth coverage (police response, casualties, negotiations, and public reaction) that satisfies WP:GNG and WP:NEVENT on its own merits, so notability is not the issue here. The stronger question is organizational per WP:MERGE/WP:SUMMARY: since the topics are closely related, editors should ensure the 2026 Delhi Jantar Mantar protest article keeps a concise summary with a {{main }} link to this article, rather than duplicating detailed content in both places. Given the scope and ongoing developments specific to the march (as several editors above note), a standalone article with a well-maintained summary style split is the better outcome. I'd support cleanup to trim any duplicated background material from this article rather than merging it wholesale. Atovi (talk) 16:22, 23 July 2026 (UTC) reply

- Oppose- Sansad chalo is not one a single event. It’s repeatedly used by protesters whether they’re youths, parties or farmers. It’s been used before and will be used in future. Keep it there . Infact, historical usage to be added.-Twelvevows (talk) 23:40, 23 July 2026 (UTC) reply
- Weak support because SCM is a continuation of the wider CJP protests starting in Jantar Mantar, but I also think that the event carries a weight to have it's own article. Ahammed Saad (talk) 03:45, 24 July 2026 (UTC) reply

- Oppose: A major standalone event and meets WP:NEVENT#2. Events are also very likely to be notable if they have widespread (national or international) impact or were very widely covered in diverse sources. Thilsebatti (talk) 12:25, 25 July 2026 (UTC) reply

- Oppose: I made this page because I think this particular event carries significant weight in the protests and there should be a separate article for this event. (talk) 15:56, 25 July 2026 (UTC)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Pelph Hoters (talk • contribs) reply
