Wow. I'm really killing it this morning... I'm sorry that's a major fuck up on my part. Thank you again for bringing this to my attention. Working on fixing the broken ones right now. Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 18:23, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
@EmergentAnarchy: It looks like we got all the ones I dumped into Category:CS1 errors: unsupported parameter... I fixed a number but you obviously beat me to a number of them. Let me know if you find any others. Sorry again about that and genuinely thank you for taking the time to not only fix my error but also to point out, with diffs, exactly where I went wrong. Makes it much easier to prevent the error in the future. Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 18:30, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
It's fine. Glad i could help. I think you just need to make sure the script doesn't affect references, if that's possible (assuming you're only intending to edit infoboxes) EmergentAnarchy (talk) 18:45, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
You're totally right, unfortunately that is much easier said that done. Trying to find a way to make that work... Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 20:52, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Is there any way to tell your script to edit only the lead section? That might limit the collateral damage if you can't think of a better way. There are occasionally infoboxes that are not in the lead, but you could handle those in a second pass. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:53, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
Unfortunately not. I've experimented with modifying JWB to just attack Infoboxes but have yet to find a good way to do it... User:Qwerfjkl (bot) almost always catches my mistakes, which I immediately fix. In this case, EmergentAnarchy just got there first. Still tweaking and definitely need to find a better solution. To be clear, not making excuses here... At the end of the day I am responsible for every edit I make so need to find a better solution. Please retain the maps and locations in the earthquake articles

[edit ]
Latest comment: 7 days ago 8 comments2 people in discussion

I don't think it's necessary to remove those when swapping out the deprecated parameters. Those maps take a lot of work to create. Dawnseeker2000 19:02, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

They may take time to create, but they add nothing to the article... Take 1979 Coyote Lake earthquake. What is the point of showing where 5 random cities (some hundreds of miles away) are in relation to that Earthquake? There is no other Infobox pushpin map that shows other random city locations in relation to the main event that the article is about. ONLY earthquakes do this. Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 20:55, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
They are not random. They are mentioned in the intensity section. Dawnseeker2000 21:05, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
So you feel we need to add random locations to the map because unsourced claims are made in the article of how it felt in these other completely unrelated locations? Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 21:08, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
I don't know why you choosing not to listen. I came to you with a friendly request and you've come back at me with some pretty strange ideas. I reverted your changes on a couple of good articles and then you said they're unsourced and unrelated. I don't know where you got that impression, but for you to just blindly revert after I told you that the locations are used in the article is pretty nuts and could be the basis for a formal complaint.
I'll let it go and restore the ones that I already did a few hours ago. I let the people at WP:Earthquakes know so that they can help out in restoring the map locations when they see them in the future. Or I might just go through all of them myself. I will make sure that the deprecated parameters are fixed up, too. Sorry that our chat ended in a weird way, but again, I came to you with a simple request and it seemed to be ignored on the basis of your misunderstanding. Dawnseeker2000 23:46, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
So a couple of things. You need to understand I am doing a mass cleanup, when you mass revert my changes the pages are ending up back in the maintenance category and being re-done. I am NOT intentionally edit warring with you so for that I do appologize.
That being said, your arguments makes no sense. Take 1980 El Asnam earthquake for example, neither Oran or Algiers are mentioned in the article. What is the point of them being on the map? Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 23:53, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
If you would like to finish cleaning up Category:Pages using infobox earthquake with deprecated parameters (0) I will not edit any further Earthquake pages.... Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 00:00, 27 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

You know, that is TOTALLY fair. I was basing my analysis on what shows up when you view the edit the template. Even {{tl }} has over 30 Module's being called. Infobox body of water

Latest comment: 6 days ago 4 comments2 people in discussion

Hi; are you sure about the deprecated parameters in this template? I only ask because as you can see here , lots of articles state they need attention due to an error (Articles using infobox body of water without pushpin map alt). Does the code need fixing, or is it simply a matter of changing pushpin_alt, to pushpin_map_alt? Thanks. The joy of all things (talk) 18:31, 28 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Sorry, I started correcting them, then realised it might be a bigger issue, so I stopped before it all goes too far. The joy of all things (talk) 18:38, 28 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
@The joy of all things: that is a great catch! Sorry for the delayed response. Been offline all day. Would have fixed it but looks like Jonesey95 beat me to it with this edit. Infobox body of water is an odd one because of the way it uses a custom module to track parameters. Sorry I missed that in my cleanup and thank you for calling it to my attention! Good looking out. Education in infobox model

[edit ]
Latest comment: 6 days ago 3 comments3 people in discussion

Hi, writing to you as I saw that you proposed to use |education= in place of |alma mater= in infoboxes. As {{Infobox model}} still uses "alma mater", I was wondering if it should be changed to "education" as an effect of the RfC. If so, as I frankly do not feel qualified to edit a template, I was wondering if you could do it or if you could direct me to someone who could. Thanks :) BilabialTrill (talk) 18:47, 28 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

It's a template wrapper for {{infobox person }}, so no code changes were needed to the template itself, AFAICT. I have updated the documentation. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:36, 28 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
As Jonesey said, it is a wrapper so will be caught in the cleanup of Infobox person. I've been working on another project so I haven't gotten around to updating the documentation for all these wrappers, but it is on my todo list! Meknes infobox

[edit ]
Latest comment: 5 days ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Just wanted to clarify regarding the edit on the Meknes "image_skyline" in the info box : indent.js automatically converted |Image= and |Location= to lowercase. While infobox parameters are lowercase, "CSS image crop" specifically requires uppercase Image and Location per its template documentation. Converting them to lowercase broke the image rendering. Kurslash (talk) 05:57, 29 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Facepalm Facepalm that wasn't actually indent.js but an overzealous REGEX in my JWB run. Thank you for catching that and brining it to my attention. Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 22:52, 29 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Deprectation warnings and documentation for Infobox NRHP

[edit ]
Latest comment: 5 days ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Hi – I just wanted to let you know that after your recent edits to the Infobox NRHP template, pages that use it (e.g. this one) are showing deprecation warnings but the documentation hasn’t been updated, so people who get the warning and want to go fix the problem are getting conflicting information. If it’s just a matter of updating the parameter names in the documentation, I’ll be happy to do that (it seems from the above that you’ve very busy :-), but I wasn’t sure whether it should also involve listing the deprecated parameters and their replacements or the like. Joriki (talk) 11:36, 29 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Removing alma_mater project.

[edit ]
Latest comment: 5 days ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Hello Zackmann,

I've noticed that we work on a lot of the same things, mainly removing |alma mater= and replacing it with |education= . I have primarily been doing this along with removing deprecated parameters within military infoboxes in the category found here. Just wanted to say thanks for also striving to replace the wording. I'm hoping I can help contribute to this category as well. Thanks.

Hi, thanks for your edit. Unfortunately it makes the map unusable on default zoom setting, as the area is surrounded by open sea, so you just see a point in a blank area of sea. The previous map format had a better zoom level so you can see the coast and a bit of context. Can you change it? Have experimented with your map formatting but not finding a way to get a sensible zoom level. Blythwood (talk) 04:29, 31 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Fixing test cases for infobox templates you've edited

[edit ]
Latest comment: 3 days ago 3 comments2 people in discussion

Hi, Zackmann. It would be very helpful when you deprecate/rename parameters in an infobox template that you fix the /testcases page also. It would be much easier for you (if you have your regexps all set up) to fix them when you fix mainspace articles, as opposed to me manually editing them afterwards . Now I fear we have 100 (?) templates with broken testcases. — hike395 (talk) 08:16, 31 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Would it be possible to protect that text using temporary replacement? For example, put /{{[Cc]ite [\s\S]*?\|\s*(title)\s*=[\s\S]*?}}/ -> PLACEHOLDER_TITLE as the first rule the script executes, and /PLACEHOLDER_TITLE/ -> title as the last one. Deprecation of alma_mater

[edit ]
Latest comment: 3 days ago 3 comments2 people in discussion

Since you reacted so positively to my last pointer, here are some more :-) A couple of things about the deprecation of alma_mater:

  • The deprecation warning at Template:Infobox officeholder contains a typo (from this edit) – it should say "replaced" instead of "replace".
  • I think I understand now what "merged with/replaced by" means (merged into education if it exists, otherwise replaced by it), but I had to think about it for a second. To my mind, "merged into" would be clearer than "merged with", and perhaps just saying "use education instead" might be even clearer (and shorter) – that a merge is required if education already exists seems clear enough.
  • The warning at Template:Infobox academic only says "which should be merged into education" – I don’t see a reason for the warnings to differ. (I didn’t check any of the other affected infoboxes.)
  • The description for the education parameter in the documentation for Template:Infobox officeholder still says: "If insufficient information is available to determine specific credentials attained, the alma mater parameter may be more appropriate."
  • The documentation for Template:Infobox_academic still lists alma_mater as a parameter. (Again, I didn’t check any of the other affected infoboxes.)

@Joriki: I've got a lot of balls in the air right now with multiple projects. Indent script

How does you indent script differ from User:Frietjes/indent.js, please? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:35, 1 August 2026 (UTC) Reply

The only real difference is in how it is called. My version inserts a few shortcuts including the ability to use the i hotkey to activate it. Mine also takes a MAX_PARAM_LENGTH of 25 and will not indent past that in the case of longer parameter names. It also has special functionality for indenting Infobox templates that will align the |label#= and |data#= parameters. Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 13:33, 1 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
Thank you. Looks good.
I just tried to use it on Christopher McEwen House, which may be an edge case, and it didn't align as I was expecting. Could you (or User:Frietjes) take a look, please? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:48, 1 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
Likewise on Ocaria ocrisia. Does it not act on {{Speciesbox }}? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:52, 1 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
So part of Friejes original script was that if the majority of the lines are in the format | param_name\s=\sparam_value (where \s is a single space), then the indent script will follow that pattern. If you want to change so that all the equal signs line up, the quickest and easiest way to do that is to insert a bunch of spaces between the first few param names and the equals sign. Then when you run the script, you should get what you're expecting. Zackmann (Talk to me /What I been doing ) 17:42, 1 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
