A shirt with the text "I'm an admin and all I get is this crappy T-shirt :)"

Congrats on the mop; you made it through. Enjoy mopping; user:Qwerfjkl/scripts/CFDlister is super helpful for closing discussions. The "list discussions" button posts to WT:CFDW rather than WP:CFDW, so you have to click "edit discussions" and copy/paste them manually into CFD. (It was designed that way because my dear friend Qwerfjkl has yet to turn this link blue.) If you need any help, let me know. You've got this—I am certain you will be fantastic. A baton for you!

The admin baton
Per ancient tradition, it is my great pleasure to pass on this baton to you, as Curbon7 did to me. It serves as a reminder that, despite dramas petty and grand, we work together to build an encyclopedia. You, holding this baton, are saluted by all its past holders. Enjoy it and then pass it on to the next AELECT admin as soon as you can! jlwoodwa (talk) 00:10, 3 August 2025 (UTC) Reply

I think that an administrator who is experienced with categories and can see deleted material is needed at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2026 July 14. There is a question about whether a regular article category is being merged into a container category. My understanding is that container categories should only contain other categories, but I'm a computer scientist, not a Wikipedia category administrator. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:2005 in European Union case law

[edit ]
Latest comment: 15 days ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

A tag has been placed on Category:2005 in European Union case law indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 20:43, 18 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Articles for Creation backlog drive

[edit ]
Latest comment: 15 days ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

Hello Smasongarrison:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in August!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than a month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 August 2026 through 31 August 2026.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 5000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:38, 19 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

A Suggestion

[edit ]
Latest comment: 5 days ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

Hello, Smasongarrison,

I've noticed that this summer you have been doing a lot of categorical reorganization. It's my opinion that if you tag a lot of an editor's work, in this case 70Juan, it really helps relationships between senior and junior editors if you leave a personal note (if I can be free to label editors based on experience). It's unnerving for any editors, no matter the level of experience, to return to their User talk page and find 20 speedy deletion notices all of a sudden appearing and no explanation for why.

It doesn't have to be a long explanation or an apologetic note, just a reminder that while the editor's work was well done at another time on the project, reorganization means that we are deleting some of the editor's prevous work. And, of course, it always helps if you point out some aspect of work that the editor does well, to point them in the right direction.

This is just a suggestion as I have a small campaign against plastering User talk pages with too many templates. I have even gone to some editor's User talk page and rollbacked all my CSD notices and told the editor they could find them in the page history if they were interested. Of, if it is about empty categories, I point them to the Empty Categories category. I just think a personal note is so much better received than multiple templates.

But I think the work right now you are doing is amazing. I try at times to do the same thing but you are much more effective than I. We are so lucky to have a couple of admins knowledgeable about categories, they are their own little universe and having 4 or 6 admins one can speak to when one has questions about categories is really invaluable. And we have some super nonadmins that I expect one day will be admins, too. Thank you! 03:01, 29 July 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback, and the thoughtful words. You're probably right, as always, lol. In this user's case, I'd already tried to engage with them the month before, but your point is well taken. I'll try to do that in the future, regardless of how likely it is that the user will come back. SMasonGarrison 03:15, 29 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Hello! I don't understand the changes you've made in this article, related to the categories, can you please explain them to me? Thank you! 👁 Ceaseless Watcher 👁 15:17, 2 August 2026 (UTC) Reply

It's an underpopulated category with only one person in the category. I'm trying to clean up because the norm is that categories should contain multiple pages. SMasonGarrison 15:18, 2 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
