Game hint lines

[edit ]

I came across an article in GamePro about live game counselors and 900 hint lines which has one or two useful pieces of info. The trouble is, I can't seem to find an article on Wikipedia where such information might appropriately go. Any suggestions?--Martin IIIa (talk) 20:34, 30 May 2017 (UTC) Reply

There's probably enough coverage to convert Nintendo Power Line into a broader concept of Video Game hint lines, of which the most famous was the Nintendo Power Line: Kotaku, A.V. Club, the line was revived for the NES Mini launch (Engadget, CNet, Polygon), Wikia (unusable as a source but can be used as a base for research), featured in The Wizard, that time when one number was bought by an sex company (N4G, NBC, Wired), Gamasutra, Felicia Day biography, Geek.com, Sierra Hint Line (this is an archive of 1989 Sierra Magazine), Sega, Konami also had their own Hint Lines. · Salvidrim! · 20:55, 30 May 2017 (UTC) Reply

Agh, sorry it took me so unbelievably long to notice this post! To add insult to injury, no, I don't have a link, just a physical copy of the issue. It's issue 92, cover-dated May 1996, and the articles is on pages 14-15, if that helps at all.--Martin IIIa (talk) 15:48, 21 July 2017 (UTC) Reply

Evil Stone moved to draftspace

[edit ]
Latest comment: 3 years ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

An article you recently created, Evil Stone, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, to be safe. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 13:19, 21 May 2023 (UTC) Reply

I know you've been less active on Wikipedia lately, so I'm not sure if this will mean much to you. But I wanted you to know that I now think the Committee was overly harsh in desysopping you in 2018. If you could see yourself ever back actively and happily adminning, let me know if you'd ever want to talk about the path to becoming a sysop again. Best, KevinL (aka L235 · t · c) 21:20, 19 November 2023 (UTC) Reply

  • Thanks @L235:, I won't lie, I've been thinking about it recently! I've stayed a bit out of sight of patrolling the admin/community boards but I wouldn't consider myself inactive, I still edit here and there every week. Also, I don't necessarily think the desysopping was unwarranted, although I do miss the gnoming/clerking work I was able to so back then. I'm definitely open to returning to active duty if you think the community will support it! Ben · Salvidrim! 23:11, 19 November 2023 (UTC) Reply

Stopping by to leave an advance holiday greeting. Good to see you're still around, even if not so much this last few months. Glad you're still finding time to edit, and all the best for the holidays and for 2026. -- Euryalus (talk) 07:15, 29 November 2025 (UTC) Reply

Thank you @Euryalus:! Still around yes. Ironically I used to have more time to edit when I worked in-office, because it was easy to do from a desk. Now that I'm fully remote for years it's a lot easier to do other things. :p Ben · Salvidrim! 07:27, 29 November 2025 (UTC) Reply

  • Administrators will now find that Special:MergeHistory is now significantly more flexible about what it can merge. It can now merge sections taken from the middle of the history of the source (rather than only the start) and insert revisions anywhere in the history of the destination page (rather than only the start). Deletion discussion about Spencer Crittenden

[edit ]
Latest comment: 6 months ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Hello Salvidrim!, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Spencer Crittenden, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spencer Crittenden.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|JohnMizuki}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

  • Due to the result of a recent motion, a rough consensus of administrators at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor's Arab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.

  • Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
  • The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
  • Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
  • Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
  • The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.
