Ribbons

Latest comment: 5 days ago 5 comments2 people in discussion

Hello. I see that you changed my edit on the Wikipedia page of Slobodan Milošević. Can you explain to me why you removed the ribbons? Thank you. Guest 290758 (talk) 17:40, 28 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

G’day. In the edit summary when I did that, I linked MOS:INFOBOXFLAG. Please have a read of that section and then come back to me. The MOS (Manual of Style) is pretty big, but it guides how we edit. There would have to be a quite unique situation for us to ignore what it says. And I doubt you could get a consensus that they are justified in the SM infobox. Hello. I read almost the entire manual you sent me. You sent me the flag manual. I did not add the flags. I was adding ribbons for decorations. Thank you. Guest 290758 (talk) 05:54, 29 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
They are treated exactly the same as flags. They don't add anything to the reader's understanding, they are so small you can't even make out what they are, and if people want to know what they look like, they can click on the text link and it takes them to a page with a high res image. On the Serbian Wikipedia, national heroes of Yugoslavia, soldiers and officers of the Yugoslav People's Army have ribbons for decorations, which can be found on Wikipedia. Although Slobodan Milošević does not have a ribbon for orders on the Serbian Wikipedia, several thousand pages on the Serbian Wikipedia have ribbons for orders entered, so I thought that it should also be entered on the English Wikipedia.
