National Championship claims for Mizzou Athletics

[edit source ]
Latest comment: 4 months ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

Hello pappyjoel. I’m reaching out because I noticed we’ve had some back-and-forth edits regarding national championship claims on the Mizzou-related pages. I wanted to move the conversation here to avoid an edit war and ensure we’re following community consensus.

While I understand that certain retroactive selectors (like the Premo-Porretta Power Poll for basketball or the Poling System for 1960 football) have "awarded" titles to Mizzou, Wikipedia’s guidelines for college athletics require that these be officially claimed by the institution or recognized as consensus national championships (per WP:NPOV and WP:V). Currently, Missouri’s official athletics site and media guides do not claim these as national titles. Adding them without a secondary, reliable source from the university itself constitutes Original Research which is prohibited.

I’d love to work together to keep these pages accurate. If you have a link to an official university source or a major news outlet stating that Mizzou currently claims these years, please share. Otherwise, we should stick to the titles officially recognized by the school to maintain a neutral point of view. Thanks! Hinklehomie (talk) 19:06, 17 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

Final warning: Edit warring

Stop icon You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly reverting content back to how you think it should be, despite knowing that other editors disagree. Once it is known that there is a disagreement, users are expected to collaborate with others, avoid editing disruptively, and try to reach a consensus – rather than repeatedly reverting the changes made by other users.

Important points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive behavior – regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not engage in edit warring – even if you believe that you are right.

You need to discuss the disagreement on the article's talk page and work towards a revision that represents consensus among everyone involved. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution if discussions reach an impasse. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to engage in edit warring, you may be blocked from editing. Hinklehomie (talk) 05:23, 20 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

You can respond if you wish at WP:AN3#User:Pappyjoel_reported_by_User:Hinklehomie_(Result:_). If you continue to revert on these articles without waiting for consensus on the talk page you are risking a block. EdJohnston (talk) 03:03, 21 March 2026 (UTC) Reply

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for edit warring.
During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.
