1,4,7-trithiacyclononane, also called [9]aneS3, can be classed as a sulfur heterocycle or as a 9-membered macrocycle and has the formula (CH2CH2S)3. This cyclic thioether macrocycle is used as a tridentate ligand in coordination chemistry.
[9]aneS3 forms complexes with a wide range of metal ions and non-metal ions. Complexes incorporating [9]aneS3 have been reported for the transition metals Ni(II), Fe(II), Cu(II), Co(II), Pd(II), Pt(II).
The one-pot synthesis of 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane was reported by Blower and Cooper in 1987.[1]
