Article example
Example alt text
Here's an example for an infobox. It is used to give more detailed information, like a planet's mass or a person's birthday.

This is the lead section of an article.[Note 1] It is used as a hook and summary of an article, or for when something is short and doesn't need it's own section.

Here is the second paragraph of the article.[Note 1] The last word of this sentence is formatted as a wikilink.

Heading

[edit ]

This is a new section of the article. It's usually used when a specific topic of an article is notable enough to have it's own section.

Here is an example of a sentence that needs a citation, so it's given one.[1] This sentence also needs a citation, but it doesn't have one, so the {{Citation needed}} template is used here.[citation needed ]

Sub-heading 1

[edit ]
Example alt text #2
This image relates to the paragraph(s) or section(s), so that is why it is added.

This is the first sub-heading, listed under #Heading. Depending on the skin you're viewing this article on, it may appear either on the left sidebar or in a little box at the top.

Sub-heading 2

[edit ]

Many people say[weasel words ] that this information is currently outdated.[as of? ]

Sub-heading 3
[edit ]

There are many templates on Wikipedia, and they can show you pretty cool things. [unbalanced opinion? ] For example, the {{NUMBEROF}} template can show statistics of Wikipedia.[Note 2] There are 7,193,554 articles on the English Wikipedia, and you can purge this page's server cache to update this information (don't worry, you can't break anything by purging.)

Sub-heading 4
[edit ]

There are 4 levels of sub-headings, with this being the last.

Sub-heading 1 (again)

[edit ]

Sections can have multiple of the same types of sub-headings. Just like having multiple subheadings, you can also re-use citations multiple times[1] , but you don't need to re-use citations.[2]

Notes

[edit ]

Here's where the notes are put, which are shown in the article as [Note #].

  1. ^ a b Note that the first—and only the first—occurrence of the article's name is bold.
  2. ^ Wikilinks are usually only used for the first occurrence of a word.

References

[edit ]

Here is where the citations and references are shown.

  1. ^ a b This is an example of a citation. Because this is re-used, it has "a" and "b" showing where it cites.
  2. ^ Because this citation isn't re-used, it just has a "^" symbol denoting what it cites.
