AI2 Incubator is a Seattle-based startup incubator focused on the creation and early development of artificial intelligence companies. It was established in 2016 as a program of the Allen Institute for AI (AI2), the nonprofit research institute founded by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and led for many years by computer scientist Oren Etzioni.[1] The incubator provides pre-seed funding and operational support to founders building AI-focused startups.[1]

The incubator spun off from AI2 into a separate legal entity in 2022, while maintaining close ties to the research institute.[2]

History

[edit ]

AI2 Incubator began as an internal initiative within AI2 to connect entrepreneurs with researchers and technical resources. Early companies associated with the incubator included Xnor.ai and Kitt.ai.[1]

In 2017, TechCrunch reported that the institute was formalizing an AI-focused incubator model offering mentorship and up to 250,000ドル per company.[3]

In January 2020, the incubator announced a 10ドル million fund backed by investors including Madrona, Sequoia Capital, Kleiner Perkins and Two Sigma to support several startups per year.[4]

By 2022, GeekWire reported that the incubator had helped launch 15 startups since 2016, with two acquisitions, more than 100ドル million raised collectively, and a combined portfolio valuation exceeding 500ドル million.[1]

In 2023, the incubator raised a 30ドル million second fund focused on AI-first startups.[5] In 2024, it secured access to approximately 200ドル million in cloud computing resources for participating companies.[6]

In 2025, regulatory filings indicated that the incubator had raised approximately 80ドル million for a third fund.[7]

In January 2025, the organization announced a move to new headquarters at Pier 70 on Seattle’s waterfront as part of an initiative called "AI House," described as a hub for the local AI community.[8]

Programs

[edit ]

AI2 Incubator works with founders at the company formation stage and provides pre-seed capital, technical guidance, and operational support.[1] Participating startups have access to shared computing infrastructure and connections to AI2’s research community.[1] [9]
