The Jungle is a 1967 short film about gangs made by African American students under the direction of Temple University professor Harold Haskins.

It was written, shot, acted, recorded and edited entirely by African American teenage gang members Charlie "Brown" Davis, Jimmy "Country" Robinson, David "Bat" Williams in Northern Philadelphia, PA.[1] [2] 1967, a group of African-American teenagers in Philadelphia produced a hybrid documentary-drama that depicted their experiences with the 12th and Oxford Street gang. They were responsible for writing, filming, acting, and editing the project themselves.[1] [2]

Legacy

In 2009, it was added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant and will be preserved.[3] [4] [5]
