1934 mayoral election

[edit ]

Besides the three unsuccessful runs for Seattle Mayor I mentioned in the article, I believe he also ran in 1934. The Argus for February 3, 1934 stated that he had "filed for the nomination for mayor". It also contains a paragraph I like enough that I'm quoting it in full here:

Vic Meyers is one of the Times' jokes that sort of backfired. That paper is responsible for placing the political bee in his bonnet. And now we have the remote possibility—but a possibility, nevertheless—of this night club musician becoming mayor of Seattle. At any rate it looks as though Vic will be cluttering up the ballots for some years to come.

Basis for "Thanks a Million"

[edit ]

According to IMDb (.com) Trivia entries for the 1935 20th Century Fox musical Thanks a Million:

Victor Meyers, then-Lt. Governor of the state of Washington and the reputed basis for this fictional account of politicking, ... Meyers, who had been a jazz-band leader in Seattle, sued the producers for 250,000ドル in 1937 for the comment Fred Allen makes about anybody being able to get elected if a jazz-band leader in Washington can get elected.

and:

He claimed it reflected on his qualifications and deprived him of the "confidence, respect and good will of the people".

Trivial, perhaps, but if someone can provide a reference it might be worth adding to this article. (P.S.: The lawsuit was dismissed.) BMJ-pdx (talk) 21:22, 19 October 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
