Image:Tropican1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. Should a new section about the hotels legacy be added to the article after the hotel closes? It has kind of a cult like status here in Las Vegas and those feelings are bound to continue after it closes. There seems to be some difference of opinion on this. I have changed it back to "closed casino hotel" for the following reasons;
1. As of April 2024, the hotel is still standing and still exists. Demolition has not begun yet. 2. The hotel is closed.
While the hotel and casino are defunct, that term is already used in the two categories the article has been categorized into. This is why as of today "closed casino hotel" is most accurate.
As for when to use "was a casino hotel", I feel that should only be used after the hotel is imploded OR after the interior of the property is completely gutted prior to the implosion. --LasVegasGirl93 (talk) 16:16, 7 April 2024 (UTC) Reply
There is no need to say "defunct" and "soon-to-be-demolished" in the opening sentence. The fact that it is closed and the article has been categorized into two categories that are for defuncts hotels and casinos already adds clarity. The fact that it is being demolished is already mentioned in the opening paragraphs of the article. - The categories are all the way at the bottom of the page. It doesn't mean the lead can't or shouldn't repeat the descriptors. In fact it should when doing so is the most accurate lead sentence. "Closed" is less strong than "defunct". It was closed in 2020 for COVID-19; that's not the same as the current state, as operations like maintenance were kept up. I do however agree about the tense; since nothing major was done to the casino physically yet, we should keep the precedent of Candlestick Park and use the present tense and "defunct".--Jasper Deng (talk) 04:43, 8 April 2024 (UTC) Reply
- If this is what the prior precedent is on other Las Vegas hotel casinos which closed, then follow through with that precedent. My point is that it should not be too wordy. I can compromise on "defunct Casino Hotel" or "defunct Hotel Casino". However, there is no need to include "soon-to-be-demolished" in the header as it is already mentioned a few paragraphs down. Using the term "was" is not yet accurate as the property still exists. I live in the area and drive by often. If it looks like the interior has been gutted, then "was" may be the right word to use. In addition to the new ballpark, Bally’s is supposed to develop a new resort on the site known as Bally’s Las Vegas. I’m just wondering at what point everyone may think it may be necessary to establish a page for the new Bally’s Las Vegas. As of right now the proposal feels very fluid. - This is a complex case. Bally's Las Vegas redirects to Horseshoe Las Vegas, which is the correct target since that property operated as Bally's for more than 30 years, until 2022. In other words, the Horseshoe property is the one most people are probably thinking of when they search for "Bally's Las Vegas". Turning the Bally's redirect page into an article about the new Bally's would disrupt the links on roughly 150 articles.
- Instead, for the time being, I've created Bally's Las Vegas (new resort) as a redirect to the Tropicana article. The redirect can eventually be turned into an article, when there's a decent amount of information to justify one. As for the titles: by the time that the new Bally's opens, probably in the late 2020s, it will have been at least five years since the old Bally's was rebranded. Editors should re-evaluate the situation at that time (or sooner, perhaps) and decide whether to move the article from Bally's Las Vegas (new resort) to just Bally's Las Vegas. I think for now, however, the old Bally's remains the primary topic over a recently announced project that is years from opening.
- All of this could be moot. Bally's could use a slightly or totally different name. It was an older news article that mentioned the name "Bally's Las Vegas," whereas the new renderings only say "Bally's," but then this is all preliminary anyways. The resort might never even get built, or it could be many years down the road as Bally's has previously suggested. The project is still in the early planning stages with no start date. What little information exists about it is already covered adequately in the Tropicana article. It's too soon for a separate page.
- Also (and this is a note for LasVegasGirl93 as well), I noticed you using curly apostrophes in your writing, resulting in the non-existent Bally’s Las Vegas for example. I fixed these links by replacing them with the new redirect, but in the future, you can avoid the issue by using a straight apostrophe (see WP:CURLY). AJFU (talk) 17:16, 18 October 2024 (UTC) Reply
- I don't think anyone needs to rush into making a new article. As I stated, it could be made soon, or just some kind of a draft for now. The renderings look (at least to me) like they are serious about developing that space. I find that in recent months, they have been wishy washy about their plans, but the renderings to me makes things look more serious. However, living in Nevada myself, I have seen lots of plans floated that never came to fruition on the Las Vegas strip. --NevadaExpert (talk) 17:02, 20 October 2024 (UTC) Reply
- We now have an article with information suggesting that Bally's wants to have a new resort at the site up and running by 2028 when the ballpark opens.
