Attempted suppression
[edit ]I wouldn't say that the attempted suppression united Old English and Gaels as Irish. Faith was the thing, and then, on the basis of faith, came the combined opposition to conformity. But it's too soon in the early 1600's to talk of a sense of shared nationality. Look: the discussion page is open!--shtove 20:59, 1 February 2006 (UTC) [reply ]
- Indeed! They certainly were not completely comfortable as allies, and this in part was what led to the failure of Confederate Ireland, leaving us wide open to attack from Cromwell. Ach sin sceal eile! Fergananim (talk) 15:55, 14 November 2012 (UTC) [reply ]
