Kisiwa cha Wafu is not used; the German word "Toten" has not been translated but been taken over as proper name. It is now Kisiwa cha Toten(Article in Mtanzania newspaper of 24.3. 2017, "Kisiwa cha Toten kinachoendelea kuharibiwa na maji ya bahari" (Toten Island which is being eroded by the harbour waters) from English Toten Island. Looks like when the Britih took over in 1917 they heard the locals call it German "Toteninsel", understood "Insel" to mean island but did not get the meaning of Toten (dead) at least did not translate it. The Swahili usage Kisiwa cha Toten looks like translation from English while adoption Toten as proper name. Kipala (talk) 19:35, 28 February 2018 (UTC) [reply ]
