Not done for now: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected }} template. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 02:02, 22 August 2021 (UTC) Reply
I don't support inclusion of this image, because it doesn't support a facet of the article in a manner not provided by existing images. Also, it is quite dark. Sincerely, HopsonRoad (talk) 15:53, 6 September 2022 (UTC) Reply

Changing infobox image

I propose changing this article's infobox image from this to this. Does anyone have any objections? —Bruce1ee talk 13:11, 6 September 2022 (UTC) Reply

Just to be clear, here is the proposed infobox image:
Bruce1ee talk 15:07, 6 September 2022 (UTC) Reply
Thank you for the proposal, Bruce1ee. It has merit in that the proposed image shows falling snow.
I prefer the current image for a few reasons:
  1. The current image is brighter.
  2. The current image shows more of the metamorphosis of snow with drifting.
  3. The proposed image shows more trees than snow on the ground.
  4. The subject of the proposed image seems to be the train, whereas the current image it seems to be the snowy landscape.
I look forward to the opinions of others.

@HopsonRoad: Thank you for your detailed reply. You raise some good points about the existing infobox image and the proposed. There haven't been any other responses so far, but for now, let's leave the current image as it is. —Bruce1ee talk 13:36, 8 September 2022 (UTC) Reply

Under "Measurement and classification", in the table headed "Frozen precipitation particles, related to snow crystals", please remove superfluous manual line breaks in the table text. Half of the lines are too long (though this may not be evident on a wider screen than my 1280px monitor) and half are too short, and it looks terrible. 80.41.133.154 (talk) 00:53, 23 October 2022 (UTC) Reply

"Metamorphosis" + "plants and animals"?

[edit ]
Latest comment: 3 years ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

User:InedibleHulk, thank you for your improvements to this article.

In the scientific community of snow experts, "metamorphosis" is the term of art that encompasses a wide range of processes, including thawing, freezing, sintering, sublimating, compaction, drifting, described both at the crystal level and the snowpack level. These processes don't necessarily occur in a set order. While I appreciate that you were trying to avoid MOS:JARGON, I suggest that "change" is just too pedestrian a word to properly evoke what is described.

In another section, you suggested "Effects on non-human life", which seemed stilted to me, so I suggested "Effects on plants and animals", which you suggested might be deficient. How about "Effects on organisms" with the lead sentence saying, "Plants, animals and other organisms endemic to snowbound...."?

Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 18:46, 27 January 2023 (UTC) Reply

I'm much happier with "metamorphism" than "metamorphosis". It's plenty sophisticated, but also plain accurate. The rest is no big deal to me, thanks for the advice! InedibleHulk (talk) 07:05, 28 January 2023 (UTC) Reply

Edit request for "Worldwide occurrence of snowfall" map

The image caption does not match the map's original legend at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Countries_receiving_snowfall.png#/media/File:Countries_receiving_snowfall.png Especially the inclusion of the word "annually" which is never claimed by the mapmaker and is in many instances untrue. Done Thank you for this observation! HopsonRoad (talk) 15:41, 29 December 2023 (UTC) Reply
Thanks for the update. However, the last legend item should be "None" or "Any elevation: None". Andre Kotez (talk) 15:25, 3 January 2024 (UTC) Reply

Snow from Vapor Cloud from lower Latitude where Water Evaporates

Clouds taken by wind to higher latitude when falls makes snow due to cold atmospheric temperature...it balances when the south iceberg melts during different opposite seasons... 103.224.95.48 (talk) 11:36, 2 December 2024 (UTC) Reply

Done It was acceptable usage, before. Perhaps the past tense is better for the discoveries. So, I put past tense in all the bulleted discoveries. HopsonRoad (talk) 13:41, 7 December 2024 (UTC) Reply

Article review

[edit ]
Latest comment: 1 year ago 5 comments2 people in discussion

It has been a while since this was last reviewed, so I took a look and noticed lots of uncited statements, including entire sections. Should this article go to WP:GAR? Z1720 (talk) 23:42, 27 May 2025 (UTC) Reply

Thank you for your query, Z1720. I see some introductory paragraphs that summarize the section that they introduce. These don't need citations, because of what follows. Elsewhere, citations cover the content of multiple sentences. If you see an important incited statement, it would be useful to tag it so that I can find the appropriate citation. HopsonRoad (talk) 01:22, 28 May 2025 (UTC) Reply
@HopsonRoad: I have added citation needed tags to the article. In most cases, introduction statements in each statement are not necessary, as the headings serve as an introduction. Z1720 (talk) 02:05, 28 May 2025 (UTC) Reply
@HopsonRoad: Thanks for your help with this. There are still some uncited statements in the article. Interested in resolving these? Z1720 (talk) 19:08, 24 July 2025 (UTC) Reply
I placed citations, where requested. They were mostly in summary paragraphs where the citation was already in the text, below. I added one useful citation on average annual snowfall where the citation was in Japanese. HopsonRoad (talk) 23:48, 25 July 2025 (UTC) Reply
