Storage of grain
[edit ]From the lead section: "Silos are used in agriculture to store fermented feed known as silage, not to be confused with a grain bin, which is used to store grains." Okay, so silos don't store grain. However, the next sentence begins "Silos are commonly used for bulk storage of grain..." Can anyone help elucidate? HerrWaus (talk) 16:22, 30 May 2023 (UTC) [reply ]
Citations for 'Safety'
[edit ]Much of the 'Safety' section does not have any citations, although the information does not seem irrelevant or dubious enough to warrant cutting the whole thing. Can someone with better knowledge of the subject add citations, or bring this to the attention of someone else who does? 61.1.53.105 (talk) 08:57, 31 January 2024 (UTC) [reply ]

From Ancient Greek σιρός (sirós)
[edit ]The text says "from ancient Green siros". The word may come indirectly from a Greek word meaning a pit, but it clearly comes directly from Spanish "silo". The online Etymology dictionary says, "from Spanish 'silo, (https://www.etymonline.com/search?q=silo) and adds that the Greek derivation is doubtful. Wiktionary says, "From Spanish silo, of unclear origin. See Spanish silo for more." METRANGOLO1 (talk) 10:29, 4 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
Inventor: Hatch vs. King
[edit ]The article states without attribution that Franklin Hiram King invented the tower silo near the top. In the History section further down however it is said that the first modern silo was invented by Fred Hatch. This has 2 references.
I don't know anything about these two fellows but perhaps someone who does can clarify this. I will add a request for attribution to King. N9jig (talk) 01:48, 29 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
