Remove "(footballer, born 1981)" from title
[edit ]Rui Borges is set to become Sporting CP's head coach, which will significantly increase his notoriety compared to the other two Rui Borges on Wikipedia. I propose removing the disambiguation from this article's title. GeorgeSeaks (talk) 17:10, 24 December 2024 (UTC) [reply ]
- @GeorgeSeaks: I'll open a WP:RM for it, so people will either agree or disagree with you. BRDude70 (talk) 17:15, 24 December 2024 (UTC) [reply ]
- A year has passed and I opened a new WP:RM. This seems quite uncontroversial. I understand some editors not wanting to give "Rui Borges" since the page redirects to the three that exist but this seems quite straighfoward, at least the removal of "footballer" from the title. He's by far the most notorious (by a mile). Not to mention that at least one of the other two pages has one reference, not known in Portugal nor on ptwiki. Rui Borges (footballer, born 1981) → Rui Borges
According to @GeorgeSeaks, article matches WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, more notable than the other ones with the same name. BRDude70 (talk) 17:16, 24 December 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. cyberdog958 Talk 08:58, 1 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

- Oppose - no PRIMARYTOPIC. The 1981 one is just getting attention due to RECENTism as he's in the news. Giant Snowman 13:09, 26 December 2024 (UTC) [reply ]

Rui Borges (footballer, born 1981) → Rui Borges – A year has passed since a move was discussed. Rui Borges is notorious manager in Portugal and now Europe. He has won 2 titles. His managerial career has surpassed his player career in significance, which means that in the least, his title should not have "footballer" on it. On top of that, there are only 2 other "Rui Borges". One is a former football player with ~100-150 matches at a 1st tier level. The other is a Portuguese swimmer with no ptwiki and one single reference. It is not unreasonable to suggest that the manager is the most known Rui Borges and that if not given the page "Rui Borges", he should not have footballer on it. - Last year, Admin GiantSnowman had, in my view, a fair assessment. It was quite recent at the time. As of today, I believe that the name could be "Rui Borges". I understand that some might oppose, this time on the grounds of "there are others" but "footballer" shouldn't be there. And the others are, frankly, not known at all (I am sure this is not the best argument but I am sure you see my point). Earl of Gotland (talk) 12:29, 4 November 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Support, I think right now by long-term significance this manager is the most noteable by a fair margin.--Ortizesp (talk) 14:10, 4 November 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Support. Thanks for bringing this up again. I agree with all your points. - GeorgeSeaks (talk) 16:32, 4 November 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

- Oppose - nothing has changed since past RM for me. Giant Snowman 19:18, 4 November 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- I don’t understand how nothing has changed. As per our tool PageViews, since 1 January until today, 3 November, the other Rui Borges had 1396 page views. This Rui Borges, the manager, 109931. I know this isn’t a competition but I don’t believe my nomination is odd. He manages (and won titles) with a Champions League side. Wikisempra (talk) 20:36, 4 November 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Strong Support - As proponent, I add my natural support. Wikisempra (talk) 20:38, 4 November 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Support We have two people from the same field (Portuguese football), and one of them has won a domestic double and the Manager of the Season award. This is not a WP:RECENTISM thing, winning these honours puts you into history. Unknown Temptation (talk) 21:46, 5 November 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
