This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered.

  • What I think should be changed:

I think an author entry should be added in the infobox, and possibly the developer list updated:

Author: Ioannis Varouchakis (credited as John Varouhakis)

Developers: Ioannis Varouchakis, Martin Nordholts

  • Why it should be changed:

The software was created by me Ioannis Varouchakis, in 2006 (before I had an id with latin characters, I used to write my name as John Varouhakis, my country of origin is Greece). The project started in sourceforge.net, in CVS, was migrated later to SVN, and finally was moved later by Martin to github, but the version history is well preserved. I maintained it up to 2009, created all the features alone, and the two UI interfaces written in python (qt-recordMyDesktop, and gtk-recordMyDesktop).

This is all in the version history, either on https://github.com/Enselic/recordmydesktop, or on https://sourceforge.net/projects/recordmydesktop/

Martin mainly re-organized the code a bit, before I transferred the project to him, and also did a couple of bug fixes.

  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):

This is the first commit that added an AUTHORS file: [1]

This is the current AUTHORS file in the github repository: [2]

Commit that removed previous email of John Varouhakis from the AUTHORS file: [3]

Post on SourceForge.net project's news, about the change of active maintainer: [4]

In the "Why 12 years?" section, there's a sentence making authorship clear: "First some background on how the original author John Varouhakis handed over the maintainer role to me." [5]

As for the change of the name from John Varouhakis, to my correct Ioannis Varouchakis, I have the following to offer as indication to the truth of my claim:

1. The user account I am currently using is linked to the same email previously attributed to be as an author, and I am using this account in purpose to claim that the correct name is Ioannis Varouchakis.

2. Author in the original sourceforge.net website is iovar: https://sourceforge.net/p/recordmydesktop/svn/HEAD/tree/ iovar stands for [io]annis [var]ouchakis and I still use the same handle: https://github.com/iovar/

(note that the project started with an old email that I no longer have, but I changed it after I got advice it made the project look less serious).

I hope that is enough to support my claim.
