Taxonomy

- Hmm, the question becomes where is Taxonomicon getting its data? I see a reference to McKenna & Bell 1997 in the nomenclature section but there is no indication that this is the source for the tree. Is Taxonomicon considered a RS? --Kev min § 18:14, 15 July 2010 (UTC) [reply ]

- For what it's worth, McKenna and Bell (1997) actually list Proconsul in the tribe Pongini, along with the other genera Taxonomicon includes in Proconsulidae (Kamoyapithecus , Limnopithecus , Kalepithecus , and Platodontopithecus ). Among the genera listed here, they list Rangwapithecus as a synonym of Dryopithecus (also Pongini), Mabokopithecus as a synonym of Ramapithecus (Pongini), Turkanapithecus as a basal member of Cercopithecoidea, and Nyanzapithecus as a member of Oreopithecinae.
