Notability?
[edit ]@Piotrus: I saw you tagged this for notability in March. I really respect your opinion, so I wanted to ping you before removing it. As this is the national postal service (even if only for a micronation), I just can't imagine that it's not notable. Fwiw, the article in dewiki is much longer. Would welcome any thoughts you might have. AleatoryPonderings (talk) 06:05, 13 August 2020 (UTC) [reply ]
- @AleatoryPonderings: I very much appreciate the ping. The German article is a bit longer, but the main issue is that the current article does not indicate why this is a notable organization (fails WP:GNG/WP:NORG). And as far as I know, the only/largest foo-thing in foo-lang or whatever is not enough for those policies (see also WP:CDO#Companies and organizations). So first, even if another Wikipedia has a high-quality article, this just merits an {{expand language }} but does not warrant removal of notability tag. Second, even if we we agreed that this topic is obviously notable per what we see elsewhere, the tag should stay until the article is expanded in a way that makes it meet GNG/NORG. Frankly, I am still considering AfDing this as I just don't see sources that this tiny post office (national... so what?) is notable. It is a tiny company that does not seem to have been written about by any scholar or such. What makes it notable, except the fact it exists?--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:15, 13 August 2020 (UTC) [reply ]
- @Piotrus: Thanks for your gracious and detailed response. I agree that it fails GNG and the various relevant SNGs as sourced at the moment (maybe the itwiki article would pass, but I don't speak Italian and am always uncomfortable machine-translating sources). Mostly this seemed like a case of WP:COMMONSENSE to me. Agree that largest/only X in Y is not a criterion of notability, but I think that "postal service of country" is or should be.
