"Press Association" is one organization described in the entry and also another term for "Press agency" (a separate entry). But "Press Association" is also a type of business or professional society that editors and publishers have organized since the 19th century. The article has a number of POV issues, some of which I have attempted to address in recent edits. To cut to the chase, it reads more like a piece of corporate PR than a balanced Wikipedia article. For example, Nick Davies' highly critical account of PA's role in the UK media's "churnalism" is glossed over and actually spun into an endorsement of PA. The trumpeting of a 2004 BBC memo about PA's status as a "confirmed, single source" also does not appear to fit with what I have been told by BBC staff (or with my own observations of the change in the way that the BBC reports "breaking news" from agencies). Perhaps someone could assist with some contemporary cite to establish what the BBC currently regards as trusted external sources? --Bill de Burgher (talk) 05:20, 28 November 2011 (UTC) [reply ]

The BBC do list, in the form a small paragraph on one of their websites regarding news and data sources, however it does not specify the conditions for trusted items. here. Given what you have said reguarding the BBC staff, it is possible that the BBC, as stated on the website use a variety of both internal and external sources which include the Press Association. I see the POV problem goes back a long way - this really does read like a press release. Right on the first line: "The Press Association (PA) is the United Kingdom and Ireland's national multimedia news agency" - "the"? Implying there are no others? The use of the word "national" also implies it's an institution like the BBC or the NHS, not a commercial company. David (talk) 21:27, 4 September 2013 (UTC) [reply ]

Given the article is about the news agency rather than the company, the page should be renamed to "PA Media".

As a result of the change of name and a clarification of the two separate entities of PA Media and PA Group, this page is now a bit of a mishmash of the two (they previously shared a single website, so confusion understandable).

When did it disappear? In 1990 it was a vast resource of physical cuttings filed in subject folders for current topics and microfilmed for 'dead' topics. The first sentence describes PA as "the national news agency of the United Kingdom and Ireland". (Is it possible to be the national agency of two different countries? Let's assume so.) But then later on, it states "the PA provides a London-based service of news-collecting and reporting from around the United Kingdom". So how does that involve Ireland then?
