Nortriptyline for fibromyalgia

In the 90's I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Eventually I was started on this drug and for me it worked, although I understand it does not for everyone. It was a low dosage and took a few weeks to work. I took it for about a year and then was weaned off it slowly. That was more than 10 years ago and the fibromyalgia hasn't returned.Nancynew (talk) 20:24, 24 July 2008 (UTC) Reply

Nortriptyline for MDD

This medication is rarely used for depression anymore. It was not very successful as an antidepressant< but has gained new fame as a good drug for tension and migrane headaches. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.114.54.109 (talk) 18:04, 14 April 2011 (UTC) Reply

In the Netherlands it is still used a lot for depression, where it is the most prescribed tricyclic (followed by Clomipramine). Furthermore, my psychiatrist (with over 25 years of experience with treating MDD) says Nortriptyline is certainly much more effective than Moclobemide (which he finds little more effective than placebo). If you search for studies with google scholar you will find both studies suggesting Nortriptyline is less effective as well as equally (or even more) effective as ssri's. For example: http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/article.aspx?articleID=170701, http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/1520-6394(2001)13:1%3C38::AID-DA6%3E3.0.CO;2-7/abstract, http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=187181. Therefore I think this part "Nortriptyline has poor long-term efficacy with a high relapse rate in individuals being treated for depression, possibly due to a toxic metabolite 10-hydroxynortriptyline, being produced. Thus it is significantly inferior to other antidepressants such as moclobemide and other older antidepressants.[3](The authors of this review did note that the nortriptyline group had more prior episodes.)" should be either removed or edited to be more balanced.15:02, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

I've added "In one study" to the sentence above myself, since no one else had done anything yet.86.87.19.96 (talk) 15:14, 13 March 2013 (UTC) Reply

Nortriptyline side effects

[edit ]

Does nortriptyline cause restless syndrome to be worse. This classification of antidepressants see to cause this in my restless legs. But, I am hoping a small dose might help my neuropathy pain.

What happened to the intro paragraph? It's grammatically wonky and flat out incorrect in referencing morphine derivatives? 24.236.85.183 (talk) 02:35, 6 July 2022 (UTC) Reply
