Discrepancy regarding colliery employment
[edit ]There appears to be a discrepancy in the sources regarding which colliery Noah Ablett worked at in 1910. The current article states he became a checkweighman at Mardy Colliery in Maerdy in 1910. However, the Welsh biographical entry in Y Bywgraffiadur Cymreig (The Welsh Biography) indicates he got a job at Maerdy colliery (pwll glo'r Maerdy) in 1910, but earlier mentions he initially worked at Ynyshir colliery (pwll glo Yny-shir) after leaving school at age 12.
The Welsh source (Egan, David. "Noah Ablett 1883-1935." Llafur, vol. 4, no. 3, 1986, pp. 19-30) suggests a progression:
- Initially worked at Ynyshir colliery as a young man
- Later moved to Maerdy colliery where he became checkweighman in 1910
This would make sense given that Ablett was born in Ynyshir and likely started work at the local pit before advancing to a position at Maerdy. Can someone with access to additional sources clarify this employment history? It would be helpful to determine: Whether he worked at both collieries at different times
The exact timeline of his employment
The succession box currently shows him as checkweighman at Mardy Colliery from 1910-1917, but we should verify this is accurate and doesn't omit his earlier employment at Ynyshir.
