[edit ]S. Morgan Smith was not a president of the Georgia Power Company and Morgan Falls Dam was not constructed by the Georgia Power Company. He helped found the Atlanta Water and Electric Company, a different company which was later taken over by the Georgia Railway and Electric Company, later changed to Georgia Power. Also, although Wade Wright, the author of the History of the Georgia Power Company, published 1957, explained that the name of the plant was in honor of S. Morgan Smith's Mother, the statement is unfounded. The plant was not named for his mother; it was named for S. Morgan Smith who died while it was being constructed. His mother's maiden name was not even Morgan.
