Notability
[edit ]Mavis Batey nee Lever is a notable codebreaker, having contributed directly to decryption of the intelligence which resulted in the British naval at the Battle of Matapan. One of Dill's Girls at The Cottage, Bletchley Park, the intelligence decrypted by her had a major impact on war in the Med theatre. The evidence that has been published in recent years means that she now deserves, on my opinion, her own page. Objections...? Opinions...? Birth date
[edit ]This was May in the infobox and June in the body; I've assumed the latter is correct, but can someone confirm, please? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:51, 25 July 2013 (UTC) [reply ]
- The source says 5 May. I don't know where Charles got June from? Mark M (talk) 07:11, 26 July 2013 (UTC) [reply ]
- Yes, that's May, thanks (was rushing in response to a tweet). Charles Matthews (talk) 07:25, 26 July 2013 (UTC) [reply ]
- That's what drew my attention here as well. :) Mark M (talk) 19:01, 26 July 2013 (UTC) [reply ]
Lilian or Lillian?
[edit ]I have a scholarly source saying Lilian. So I think it should be preferred, unless there is a solid source saying Lillian. Charles Matthews (talk) 16:03, 26 July 2013 (UTC) [reply ]
- Agreed; I've changed it. Mark M (talk) 19:01, 26 July 2013 (UTC) [reply ]
Unbreakable enigma
[edit ]"In December 1941 she broke a message between Belgrade and Berlin that enabled Dilly Knox's team to work out the wiring of the Abwehr Enigma, an Enigma machine previously thought to be unbreakable." This sentence seems wrong. Enigma was broken many years earlier. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.254.66.245 (talk) 02:34, 6 February 2014 (UTC) [reply ]
Polishing
[edit ]I see that some new text is being added today. I will proofread, copy edit and format the refs in a few hours. Thanks! Tribe of Tiger Let's Purrfect! 17:50, 18 March 2018 (UTC) [reply ]
