FOIA Relevance

[edit ]

"Squid King blamed the situation he faced on the credit scoring system and Freedom of Information Act, stating that people will live in misery if they cannot maintain a credit score. He described the financial status of most middle class in the United States as 'weak' and the situation as a 'kill Line'."

@Saimmx The blaming of FOIA seems out of left field, since it's entirely about citizens being able to request access to government documents, which shouldn't have any impact on a person's ability to avoid homelessness. The rest of the paragraph doesn't address its relevance at all, and the English machine translations of the two cited sources didn't illuminate the connection either (I unfortunately cannot read any form of Chinese). Could you elaborate on what this means?

(Side note: there's a lot of inconsistency in the capitalization of "kill line" / "Kill Line" / "kill Line" throughout the article, unsure if this is intentional or not.) ARoseThorn (talk) 05:38, 16 February 2026 (UTC) [reply ]

I am going to ask the original poster about the FOIA. Personally, I think it is from the video, but the video was, um, way too long. Saimmx (talk) 06:24, 16 February 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
The original sentence: "牢A表示美国社会中下层个体的容错率极低,加上信息自由法和信用评分系统较为严酷,很容易导致之前的违约记录影响未来申请求职、证件和贷款"
I will translate it as: "Loa-A (Squid King here) stated that lower and middle class individuals in the US society faced extremely low tolerance of error. Plus curel system of FOIA (信息自由法) and credit scoring, any previous default records could affect future job applications, certifications, and loans." - @ARoseThorn: Does the original sentence makes sense to you? Saimmx (talk) 06:34, 16 February 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
Ah, I think the original poster misunderstood what FOIA is for, believing it allowed other citizens to access other peoples' personal records (like defaults) instead of being about transparency for government documents. So the sentence as you wrote it is technically accurate, but needs that context to make sense (in my opinion). I just don't know if it's worth going into the detail about this confusion within the article; maybe just remove the mention of FOIA entirely? I'll let you make that decision. ARoseThorn (talk) 06:59, 16 February 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
I will say we can delete FOIA - the only source may support the FOIA is the original as primary source, but I don't want to watch a five-hour video and looks like the statement does not supported by BBC or NYT. We can add it back anytime once we know if Squid King stated (read: misunderstood) it. Saimmx (talk) 07:27, 16 February 2026 (UTC) [reply ]

Translation issue?

[edit ]

I tried to verify some of the sources. Almost everything is in chinese. While I do have a good enough gasp of the language, verifying the sources made me feel like I'm having a stroke. The english text on the wiki does not match what the sources said at all. I'm not sure if it's due to some translation issue, or the article's just written in a fast and loose manner. I'll try to edit it to fit the sources better. Unfortunately, there isn't much english source. Anothercat613 (talk) 10:45, 16 March 2026 (UTC) [reply ]

I found a lot more chinese source about this guy (斯奎奇大王). The guy seem delusional? There's all sort of crazy things in his videos, such as Americans extracting drugs from bone ashes. He claimed to be studying at a US medical school, so maybe he knew more. But all evidence I found suggest that is simply not possible. Is he some kind of crazy conspiracy theorist or did USA have some crazy, secret breakthrough in physics? Anothercat613 (talk) 11:10, 16 March 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
Maybe both. The English entry is translated from its Chinese correspondent, with lots of copyediting, and removing unreliable sources. You can compare first revision and the latest revision. I will say the English translation is better organised than the Chinese entry, but looks like you are deeply confused. I am sorry for making you confuse because of the translation. For example, "The term "kill line" originates from role-playing games (RPGs) and multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games, referring to a threshold at which a character can be eliminated with single attack once their health falls below a certain level." is translated from ""斩杀线"原为RPG以及MOBA等多种游戏术语,来源于《魔兽世界》一词为"斩杀(Execution)"之词:指敌对单位血量跌至可被一击出局、一击必杀的临界值。" - with two sources: NYT and CCTV. Not sure why the CCTV was removed. Saimmx (talk) 17:08, 5 April 2026 (UTC) [reply ]
