X Y Z

[edit ]

Notes on terms in X Y Z sections still left redlinked:

  • X-ray dress - A Google News Archive search brought up lots of articles from 1913-14 indicating that this was a reasonably widespread term for a transparent or otherwise too revealing dress. Whilst the term also crops up in more recent articles, it is much more infrequent and the usage a lot less consistent than in the 1910s context.
  • Yuzen birodo - This appears to be a Japanese textile art technique, described as Japanese velvet painting. Sounds like there could be an interesting and very relevant article here, though is it really fashion-related?
  • Zamarra (coat) - A kind of sheepskin coat worn by Spanish shepherds.
  • Zancha - What I find is "a kind of Parthian shoe" - viz, a shoe made from Parthian leather. I'm not sure it would be possible to create an article based on such minimal/vague material, but the right person could probably do so.
  • Zepel - Although confusingly there is a textile brand also called this, it seems Zepel finish is a flame-retardant finishing process for fabrics. Again, fashion related?

I am trying to make appropriate redirects, clarify terms, confirm terms as fashion-related and remove any I can't confirm as fashion related - but it's a lot to do single handedly. Hopefully the notes above can offer a starting point for others to create articles. Mabalu (talk) 21:34, 8 June 2012 (UTC) [reply ]

I suggest splitting this into two indexes

[edit ]

A lot of the terms here are textile terms rather than fashion terms, so I would suggest that all the weaves, fabrics, types of lace/fur/leather etc go into Index of textile articles, keeping this index specifically for garments and accessories. This seems like a logical solution that would create two useful indexes of more manageable size and focus. Not that anyone is likely to see this, but I'll leave this suggestion up here for a bit to see if anyone has any thoughts. Mabalu (talk) 11:20, 7 September 2012 (UTC) [reply ]
