Change in spelling

[edit ]

I have changed the article's title from Harbormaster (TV series) to Harbourmaster (TV series). As I write this message, five of the six citations in the article have "u" in the title. A search of the trade publications Billboard and Broadcasting will show more articles that have "Harbourmaster" for the title. Eddie Blick (talk) 17:16, 8 March 2021 (UTC) [reply ]

It is a U.S. TV series and it is listed as HARBORMASTER at the IMDB. In the United States, the word is spelled without a "U' so this is inexplicable to me. Other databases list it as "Harbormaster." Montju (talk) 17:08, 19 May 2023 (UTC) [reply ]
@Montju, Isn't content of Wikipedia articles supposed to reflect the content of reliable sources? IMDb is not a reliable source. (WP:IMDB)
An article ("TV Film Chatter") in the May 1, 1957, issue of Variety (which I found after reading your post) explains the spelling this way:

"Harbourmaster" is still a tentative title, but the use of the "u" stems from the fact that the sign used in pilot is one first put up about 200 years ago when European spelling was still in vogue.

I agree that the spelling seems odd in the United States in 2023, but I think sources support it sufficiently. If you prefer the title without the "u", you can change the title. Eddie Blick (talk) 01:19, 20 May 2023 (UTC) [reply ]
