What happened to my photo?

[edit ]

Someone took out my photo and moved it to the GS1 US article. Actually, GS1 US is also a GS1 Global Office along with the Belgium office so it is correct to have the photo of the U.S. office in this article. --Coolcaesar (talk) 03:12, 15 December 2007 (UTC) [reply ]

The GS1 headquarters photo may be moved a bit down as it hides some text. Aashrith (talk) 08:58, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Sridar[reply ]
Looks fine to me (and I've looked at this article recently on two different computers with different screen sizes). --Coolcaesar (talk) 09:22, 7 January 2009 (UTC) [reply ]
I'm viewing on another system and the large photo of the headquarters is obscuring some text. Thanks Chris —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.42.184.99 (talk) 14:41, 24 March 2009 (UTC) [reply ]

GS1 US is a member organization of GS1, which is the global organization. They are not the same thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.128.233.156 (talk) 16:55, 19 January 2016 (UTC) [reply ]

Acronym

[edit ]

What does GS1 stand for? Global System? General Supply? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.246.132.178 (talk) 15:46, 14 October 2011 (UTC) [reply ]

I think the first one. --Coolcaesar (talk) 07:53, 15 October 2011 (UTC) [reply ]

It stands for Global Standard. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.128.233.156 (talk) 16:54, 19 January 2016 (UTC) [reply ]

Officially, the name "GS1" does not stand for anything. It is just GS1. You won't find anything on the GS1 website that says what the letters stand for. That being said, it is true that those letters were chosen because of the phrase "global standards", but it would be incorrect to put something in the main article for GS1 implying that the name is an acronym. --Stdsguru (talk) 17:33, 19 January 2016 (UTC) [reply ]

Barcode Standard

[edit ]

"The Barcode is the most well-known of the GS1 standards." This implies that all barcodes (which have diverse formats) are defined by a single GS1 standard. I find that dubious. When I check into a hospital and they give me a bracelet with a barcode, is that somehow specified by the GS1? I don't have access to the referenced source, but I suspect that this should say that GS1 manages several (obviously not all) barcode standards. Isaac Rabinovitch (talk) 02:55, 1 November 2017 (UTC) [reply ]

I think this is a quibble over semantics. Why not change it to "Barcodes are the most well-known of the GS1 standards." ? Chrisj1948 (talk) 11:24, 1 November 2017 (UTC) [reply ]
Well, for one thing "barcodes are standards" is simply not true. A semantic argument is not necessarily a quibble. Isaac Rabinovitch (talk) 20:14, 1 November 2017 (UTC) [reply ]
Sigh. "Barcodes are the most well-known application of GS1 standards." ? Chrisj1948 (talk) 10:45, 3 November 2017 (UTC) [reply ]

is that SAP?

[edit ]

there are many barcode systems on the market. which ones have been, first? I mean, 1D barcode is found everywhere. 2d are common. hasn't that been SAP? Wikistallion (talk) 09:42, 28 July 2020 (UTC) [reply ]

and them? Wikistallion (talk) 09:44, 28 July 2020 (UTC) [reply ]
