Request to add

Main article: Mass media in Finland

under the section Finland#Media and communications.

Done Have added, although that article is currently not very complete. Martinevans123 (talk) 12:13, 10 September 2024 (UTC) [reply ]

This has been tagged as not notable and lacking references, but oddly it is not marked as being related to this project. Please fix this issue. Bearian (talk) 05:33, 13 December 2024 (UTC) [reply ]

I added it to WikiProject Finland. Somebody who has experience with WP:NMUSIC might want to take a look whether it should be AfD'd. Btw, this is not the project talk page. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 06:15, 13 December 2024 (UTC) [reply ]

My request is to add to the article about Finland the fact that Finland has been chosen to be the happiest country in the world by The World Happiness Report for seven consecutive years. I find it weird that this information is missing. Finlander4321 (talk) 21:45, 8 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

What's your source? This article on the World Happiness Report might be useful. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:46, 8 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Heart (talk) 21:50, 8 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
There are no fewer than five separate sources, at World Happiness Report, supporting the claim that "As of March 2024, Finland has been ranked the happiest country in the world seven times in a row." Just sayin'. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:56, 8 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
Used to be on the article from what I remember, but editors insisted on its removal because they did not personally agree with the list ̄\_(ツ)_/ ̄ TylerBurden (talk) 16:19, 9 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
How bizarre, as we have an undisputed article for the source itself at World Happiness Report. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:24, 9 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

Lead

[edit ]

"following the Russian invasion of Ukraine" The introduction is the most important part of the article. It covers thousands of years of history but is typically only four paragraphs long. Therefore, it should include only relevant information. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not newspaper. The lead section should not give undue weight to recentism.

The article on Sweden does not mention that the country joined NATO following Russia’s invasion. Nor it is in Finnish version. Such information would be only superficially informative. It is just a detail. Finland could have joined NATO earlier, for example in the 1990s.

Russia's war in Ukraine is not significant in the context of Finland's history. On the contrary, it would be misleading. Finland is not at war with Russia; the Ukrainian state is. Associating Finland with this would potentially constitute misinformation. Russian invasion of Ukraine is not part of history of Finland in four paragraphs.

When it comes to security, misleading claims in Wikipedia biographies about living individuals must be removed. Issues related to truth and security must also be addressed promptly in other articles. First, do not harm. Thi (talk) 21:26, 28 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

The article has the old style that is still in the majority of country aarticles...our best modern FA country articles follow a different format.... that is linking sub articles with actual tangible information in the lead...see WP:COUNTRYDETAIL that has an example as seen at Japan and Canada. For some reason this is a hard fix. People seem to like listening these random organizations that don't even mention the country in question over linking articles actually related to the topic Moxy 🍁 02:53, 29 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
Not even sure what you are trying to argue for, other than removing the context for Finland joining NATO? Nowhere on the article does it say Finland is at war with Russia, this seems to be something you're making up yourself. You keep bringing up the history of the country, like it or not, Finland joining NATO is a far bigger deal than for example the Nordic Council and OECD, as seen in the coverage in WP:RS. --TylerBurden (talk) 05:25, 29 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
The article is about Finland, not about Finland joining some organization. The site is not about daily news. --Thi (talk) 06:43, 29 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
This is not about "daily news". It is clearly related to the preceding sentence "During the Cold War, Finland officially embraced a policy of neutrality" and emphasises the drastic move from the maintained neutrality to military alliance. It's perfectly OK to include this in the introduction. Surfo (talk) 10:52, 29 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
