ABSTRACT ARTIST??

[edit ]

To assert high up in an encyclopedia entry that Botero is an "abstract artist" strikes me as absurd, and renders the term "abstract" meaningless.

In a particular context, it might be fine for an art critic/historian to make such a counterintuitive assessment (and we have no footnotes for such a declaration here).

But on this brief page, it only serves to mystify the artwork. And there is no useful purpose in doing that.

I suggest this line be struck or altered. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Parisikov (talkcontribs) 17:39, 28 September 2007 (UTC) [reply ]

The Changes I Made Were Reversed by a ROBOT!!!

[edit ]

Please, someone else - a real person? - review those changes and see if they can be reversed. I don ́t want the ROBOT to think I am spamming and until I find my password I may as well not contribute any more to Wiki.

PS: There ́s no way Botero is an Abstract artist, though some of his early work relates to the abstract expressionist period that was big and which perhaps influenced some of his art then. 200.118.102.88 (talk) 22:36, 20 February 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Deletions

[edit ]

Weird, there was nothing about his life, I found one paragraph "early years" that had been deleted, but there is no information on where he has lived and when he moved to Mexico, for instance. Maybe somebody more knowledgeable than I can fix this article, it's in a sad state. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drawn Some (talkcontribs) 17:27, 21 October 2008 (UTC) [reply ]

Severely Stubbed, even now

[edit ]

This article was in far worse shape when I first ran into it a few years ago, but it's still in a sorry state. Botero is one of the most significant painters from Colombia and even South America, and he's only becoming more well-known in the art world -- to limit most of the breadth of the article to the Abu Gharaib paintings, a relatively minor and recent incident in the artist's long and illustrious career, displays a stunning myopia. Somebody please add in information and pictures of the man's whole repertoire. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.54.19.192 (talk) 20:56, 9 February 2011 (UTC) [reply ]

"Pope Leo X" "y tho" meme?

[edit ]

I feel like it should be mentioned that Fernando Botero's "Pope Leo X" painting has become a meme, frequently with the text "y tho" on top of the painting. 67.149.189.218 (talk) 02:16, 17 May 2017 (UTC) [reply ]
