Kazakh famine
[edit ]You have forgotten to mention the Kazakh famine which killed ~1.5 million people in Kazakhstan.
In the second paragraph of the article the figure '799,455' is given for the number of executions. The source for this information is a Guardian article which in turn provides no source for this number. ArmaanSolkar (talk) 21:41, 1 April 2024 (UTC) Reply

- What I think should be changed:
Four more citations should be added to the figure of "799,455" executed between 1921-1953 under Stalin's regime.
- Why it should be changed:
The only current citation is a mere The Guardian article written exclusively by a journalist that, in turn, provides no source for said number. There's currently no credibility for the figure, though there exist more sources online that actually back it up.
- References supporting the possible change:
The Presidential website of Russia admitting the number of executions. [1]
A soviet declassified document which features those figures. [2]
A publication in the JSTOR journal by David Laibman citing historians Roger Keeran or Thomas Kenny stating those numbers. [3]
A publication in the De Gruyter journal by anthropologist Hans A. Baer citing historian Michael Parenti stating those figures. [4]

- Partly done:. Added 3 of the 4 citations for the statement. The only reason I did not add all of them is to avoid an excessive amount of references. I decided to exclude the non-English source here, simply because this is the English Wikipedia, and the English language sources convey the exact same information (per WP:NONENGLISH). Also, another source had already been added to the statement after this request was made, though it wasn't one of the ones listed here.
- Regardless, thank you for finding these citations.

- These estimates of deaths resulting from Soviet repression seem to be based exclusively on official Soviet statistics. But there is no rational basis for believing that these statistics are accurate, since there is a great deal of evidence that the Soviet government habitually lied about almost anything. The statistical estimates also original with the history and social science departments of American and British universities that are dominated by Marxists, whose predisposition is to minimize the deaths resulting from repression and terror in Communist countries. ~2026-29974-39 (talk) 22:10, 18 May 2026 (UTC) Reply
