Author format

[edit ]

This article was created with the author format Bloggs, Joe F. or if we don't know the forename then Bloggs J. F. The MOS is quite clear that citation formats should not be changed against consensus if they are at all logical, which this format certainly is. The forenames are valuable pieces of information, making it easier to remember authors and helping to disambiguate between authors. It is quite wrong to discard this knowledge in the name of consistency, leaving aside the matter of Wikipedia policy. I've therefore reverted the change and hope never to see this sort of thing happening anywhere else. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:23, 18 May 2019 (UTC) [reply ]
