Behavioral Ecology Assignment

[edit ]

I removed the redirect to the Drosophila page and added the Taxobox and lead section. I also added the Description, Distribution, Phylogeny, Cold Adaptation, Habitat, Reproductive Diapause, Mating, Courtship Songs, Cuticular Hydrocarbons, Parental Care, and Commensalism sections. I added an image of a site of oviposition, also reflecting the species' commensalism with beavers. I also added internal links and 15 references. ArndtH (talk) 01:58, 1 November 2019 (UTC) [reply ]

Hi ArdtH, thanks for your work on this article. I thought this was an interesting fly species, with broad coverage of the unique behaviors of this fly such as adaptation to cold temperatures. One thing I was confused about was the last sentence in the description: "The most notable similarities exist between D. montana and D. flavomontana." I wasn't sure what you are trying to say here, so I'll leave it up to you to clarify. The main issues that I improved were grammar, punctuation and organization of the writing. I edited the article for concise and clear language and rewrote passive language. Specifically, I rewrote sentences in Phylogeny to make more clear that virilis and montana phylads were clusters from the D. virilis species group. I also reorganized sentences and added a paragraph break in the Reproductive diapause section because I thought there was a clear topic change in the original single paragraph that could be divided. In addition, in the Reproductive diapause section, I fixed unnecessary citations to the same source cited after each sentence instead of at the end of the section. Last, I added helpful hyperlinks to the Cascade mountain range in Distribution, D. virilis in Phylogeny, and the alder tree in the Commensalism section. In the talk page, I added our class banner as well and added section headings to comment entries. Good work on this article! Listephanie (talk) 18:46, 5 November 2019 (UTC) [reply ]

Hi, I think you did a really good job on this page! I made some minor edits to your article. I reworded the sentences about geography for clarity. I changed the second Drosophila montana to D. montana to better align with the rest of your article. Try to avoid using quotations, I changed the ones around light and dark. Under distribution, I got rid of the "most cold tolerant" and put that in habitat, where it fits better with the information already stated. I would recommend making the reproductive diapause under the mating section because I think it would help the information flow better. I also linked to a couple of other pages. Hello, you've done a great job at improving this article! It read really well as well as covered a good amount of information in different areas. I made very minor changes such as adding hyperlinks to a couple of terms that I feel not everyone would be familiar with. I also rearranged the habitat section so that it followed the layout of other Diptera articles. In terms of how to make this article better, I was wondering if there was more information as to why there can only be one generation produced per year?Srivera2019 (talk) 05:16, 6 November 2019 (UTC) [reply ]
