Redirects

I don't understand why leaf monkey and langur redirect here when these words are not bold on the page, but actually seem to be a subset in their own group. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.177.113.91 (talk) 22:10, 15 February 2009 (UTC) [reply ]

Disambiguation page required

[edit ]

As can be seen from my See Also addition, Langur in English should not redirect here but to a disambiguation page for the ambiguous layman's term. As genome studies proceed in Botany and in Zoology, this will be a more frequent need given the clades now emerging from the science and resulting in revised taxonomies. Layman's language or common language will lag behind for decades or longer. But in the case of my adding the See Also section, the 'langur' in question is critically endangered. Minimally, we must add "For endangered langur in China, see white-headed langur.

The Lutung page states: "Most of the species in this genus can be referred to as lutungs, as langurs, or as leaf monkeys" but the opening of this article mentions only Leaf variant in Boldface.

No. Langur can refer to all of the species in the langur subgroup of this subfamily. Since we don't have articles about the subgroups, it redirects here. Some genera have other names as well (such as lutung) while other names can also apply to all of the species (I believe leaf monkey fits that bill). - UtherSRG (talk) 16:55, 28 March 2012 (UTC) [reply ]

In the sentence "one of langurs and the other of the "odd-nosed" species" the plural 'langurs' is a link to this very page - a symptom of what is wrong here given the lack of a langur disambiguation page.
