origins

[edit ]

I was skimming through Donald Rayfield's Edge of the Empire and he says on page 62 that Abkhazian bishoprics changed allegiance from Constantinople to Mtskheta in the beginning of 10th century. This seems to contradict the following passage from the article:

The date when the Catholicate of Abkhazia was established is not completely clear, but most scholars put it between the ninth and eleventh centuries. The titular Catholicoi of Abkhazia were only occasionally mentioned in the contemporary sources and did not enjoy independence at that time, but were subordinated to the Georgian Orthodox Patriarchal see at Mtskheta.

It's not clear what sources back this, so could someone more knowledgeable in this area share their opinion? Alæxis ¿question? 15:23, 13 March 2017 (UTC) [reply ]

Continuity

[edit ]

@Informationskampagne:, please stop edit warring and discuss your rationale behind your insertion of unsourced and POV material. Your claim that the modern-day group of clerics is the "continuation" of the medieval catholicate is a blatant original research or fringe theory at best. --Kober Talk 15:12, 19 June 2017 (UTC) [reply ]
