Why is this article needed?

[edit ]

What's the purpose of this article? Wikipedia already has an article about the BASIC programming language, and it already has an article about programming language interpreters. What's left to say about BASIC interpreters that wouldn't be satisfied by simply providing links to both of those other articles? 173.75.33.51 (talk) 17:53, 6 September 2020 (UTC) [reply ]

For the same reason any article that intersects two other articles is needed: to provide more depth. I see someone from your IP address visited Weapons in Star Trek, which goes into much more detail than either Weapons or Star Trek, for instance. Unlike interpreters for other languages, BASIC interpreters were the command line, the primary UI, for tens of millions of microcomputer users. They powered hundreds of BASIC dialects and had specific techniques tailored to the language and early computers that differ from modern implementations of interpreters. An article on a specific BASIC won’t compare and contrast techniques. This article covers a lot of the development issues, which are outside the scope of the BASIC article.
