Yeah, especially since the only way to really tell is to grab a time-machine and see if two specimens from different times can produce a fertile offspring... That's gotta cause the occasional fistfight at biology conferences. crazyeddie 09:19, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)

"Anagenesis may also be referred to as phyletic evolution or gradual evolution."

It is interesting to note that in micro-evolutionary theory there is considerable discussion regarding the role of how more successful subpopulations(with low interbreeding rates) may displace other subpopulations in the original niche. From this viewpoint (more in line with punctuated equilibria)anagenesis is esssentially speciation which destroys the original specie.
