So User:StormL00ver and I have been discussing on my talk page whether this page should be described as "significant", "major" or "violent". I personally feel like "significant" is most applicable given most of the tornadoes were of IF2 strength, and the outbreak did not achieve a score of 30 on the Outbreak Intensity Score, and wouldn't even if the IF3 is indeed upgraded to IF4. As for the "violent" descriptor, I would hesitate to call almost any outbreak a "violent" outbreak unless it had multiple violent tornadoes from different supercells, or at a minimum at least one violent-rated tornado along with several high-end intense rated (EF3 or equivalent) rated tornadoes that plausibly could have been violent rated. Examples of events I would call "violent outbreaks" would be last year's mid-march outbreak, or 3/31/2023. One of the exceptions to this where for just one supercell producing EF4 tornado(es) would be 12-10-2021, for obvious reasons, but this outbreak was not a case of being that high-level exceptional. - I'm not trying to start an edit war nor I will.I just want to say that scientificly and IF3 tornado wont get the same points as an EF3's OIS score.IF3 should be converted to an EF scale counterpart then it should be rated in the OIS score system. ⚡ StormL00ver ⚡ 16:34, 26 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

- And as I said on my talk page, what I feel like you are missing about the different tornado scales is that a mid-rage IF3 with winds rated at 180 mph doesn't actually have a higher damage rating than a mid-range EF3 with windspeeds of 150-155 mph, they just view the damage as requiring higher windspeeds needed to reach said damage. Hence why we don't list the 2021 South Moravia tornado as being the sole strongest rated tornado of 2021 (as the raw windspeeds of both the IF and F scales would seem to suggest), and instead list it alongside the Newnan, Monette-Samburg, and Western Kentucky tornadoes as all being the highest rated tornadoes of the year. Anyway, this is the last thing imma say on this for now, I just wanted to better illustrate my point to those reading here who don't wanna go look at the discussion on my talk page. - Is Gaziantep Province generally considered to be in Mesopotamia or not? Is Aleppo Governorate? I'm not familiar enough to say with any confidence. Certainly Cyprus isn't, though I can understand if you think Cyprus isn't significant enough to include. - See, I originally made the article with the title "2026 Middle East tornado outbreak" then "2026 Syria–Turkey tornado outbreak" but since most tornadoes were in Turkey and most coverage on the event is strictly Turkish, i changed the title just to include turkey. - Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. Can you find any English language source which refers to this outbreak as having occurred in "Mesopotamia" let alone "Upper Mesopotamia"? The name belongs to a historical region, not really used commonly now. Not sure yet about Adumbrativus' suggestion, but worth some thought and also follows the desired alphabetical order. - Oppose. Most maps i can see, Gaziantep Province and Aleppo Governorate aren't in Mesopotamia, and i agree with Raskuly on why it shouldn't be called "2026 Upper Mesopotamia tornado outbreak". Most if not all coverage on the event is Turkish so that's what i settled with.

- i'd support, it looks like most of the areas affected, besides cyprus, would probably be considered upper mesopotamia (see maps), and i agree that using "turkey" is non-descriptive since turkey is a pretty big country and this outbreak was very localized.
