1969 Draft
[edit ]This article says, "Noll said years later that Greene would've been selected even if they had the top overall pick, passing over Simpson." But I have two problems with that. 1. It's not sourced. and 2. I have a book published in 1974 (before the 1974 season) that quotes Art Rooney Jr. -- the team's director of personnel in 1969 -- as saying that the Steelers had Greene as second on their board to Simpson. Here's a quote, "Next to O.J., we had Joe figured as the surest bet in the whole draft."
So either the person who edited this article is lying or Noll was just expressing his opinion -- not what the team would have done. 74.98.11.71 (talk) 21:35, 12 November 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
