Talk:03 Greedo
It is of interest to the following WikiProjects:
Listas= setting
[edit ]@MatthewVanitas, DepressedPer, and Usernamekiran: I notice the current "listas=" setting is "Greedo, 03", not his stage name of "03 Greedo" and I wonder if this is appropriate. I see this setting also mirrors the default sort setting in the article. This setting will cause this article to be listed under "G", just after the Star Wars character Greedo , rather than under "0-9", in category pages. The general guidelines for both WP:NAMESORT and WP:LISTAS is that "The sort key should mirror the article's title as closely as possible, while omitting disambiguating terms." It goes on to explain that where the article includes a person's name then the article is sorted in categories primarily by the Surname first. However, there is no guideline for an article that uses a stage name with no identifiable surname; the nearest I can get is a person who is known by a single name (the very last option). There is nothing about stage acts known by numbers with a leading zero. In such cases, the initial guideline suggests the sort order is to use the article title directly. The "03" in the stage name is not a disambiguating term, so what basis is there for saying that the name sort order should put second word of the stage name before the first word, which are digits? Technically, one could also use a listas= setting of "Zero-three Greedo" to get an alphabetic listing in "Z", "Oh-three Greedo" and have a listing in "O" or use the artist's birth name, which would be "Jackson, Jason Jamal" and have a listing in "J". All four alphabetic listings make about the same amount of sense and significantly less sense than simply listing the article according to the article's spelling. This is not an isolated issue, as several other musical artists appear to have adopted stage names that include numbers or letter combinations that are not names, so I think some common sense understandings of the guidelines are needed. My preference is to just use the stage name of an artist as given in the title when it is used as the article title, with no culturally discernible first name and last name pattern. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 00:00, 17 January 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
- These sort key settings have now been changed to DEFAULTSORT:03 Greedo with this edit and listas=03 Greedo with this edit because the sort key for both parameters " ... should mirror the article's title as closely as possible ... " if it is not titled "Forename Surname". In this case, the artist uses the stage name "03 Greedo". If you disagree, please explain why the sort key should be something different and discuss any further changes before making them. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 21:17, 18 January 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
Abandoned user draft
[edit ]Please would an interested editor assess the earlier draft at User:Noizeyou/sandbox, incorporate what is useful, then blank that page as WP:STALEDRAFT, and leave a note here when done? – Fayenatic London 15:47, 14 December 2024 (UTC) [reply ]
- Looking through this, it doesn't seem like there is much that is usable here. What is there is largely unsourced or possibly pulled directly from a single No Jumper youtube interview. Beyond that, the information that is there exists in a better sourced state currently within the existing article. I've blanked it. Ixgauth (talk) 06:13, 22 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
