His title was not duc DE Decazes

[edit ]

Élie Decazes was NOT the duc DE Decazes. He was the duc Decazes. In the Peerage of France, family names (unless dependent on the name of a fiefdom) were not given the extra "de" in between the rank and the name associated with the rank. Decazes is a family name and not a fiefdom. Because of this no "de" was included in his new title. A similar case in point is Hortense Mancini. Her husband was specifically made the duc Mazarin and not duc de Mazarin because Mazarin was a family name and not the name of an appanage. The title of this article needs to be moved. Assessment comment

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Élie, duc Decazes/Comments , and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

This bio notice seems contradictory with most French sources, especially regarding pedigree and alliances.

Remains questionable to me

Sorry, I made a confusion between Elie Decazes and Pierre Elysée Decazes.

I withdraw my comment.
