Piekoszów [pjɛˈkɔʂuf] is a town in Kielce County, Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in south-central Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Piekoszów. It lies approximately 11 km (7 mi) west of the regional capital Kielce.[1]
History
[edit ]Piekoszów was the former seat of the Odrowąż family.[2] In 1366, Piotr Odrowąż founded a parish church in Piekoszów.[2] It was administratively located in the Sandomierz Voivodeship in the Lesser Poland Province of the Kingdom of Poland.
According to the 1921 census, the population was 94.4% Polish and 5.6% Jewish.[3]
Following the German-Soviet invasion of Poland, which started World War II in September 1939, the town was occupied by Germany.
