Not all items are included in the formatting section?

[edit ]

In the formatting section, it leaves out information about the Big and Small options. The image included says "Clear styling", but the page says "Remove". Is there a reason for these items being left out? This is also present in the tutorial on Formatting.

Wikipedia/Project Namespace

According to this article, VisualEditor is enabled for the Project Namespace. Is this correct? Doesn't seem to be for me! Tomatoswoop (talk) 01:30, 13 October 2024 (UTC) Reply

Regex

Does the visual editor support regular expression search and replace and how do you activate it? I tried the instructions in Wikisource:Regex but didn't see "Add a 'regex editor' sidebar link which lets you write, apply, and save regex patterns (documentation)." under gadgets. -- Shmuel (Seymour J.) A black Rockette danced in the Radio City Xmas shows 1982-84 in Los Angeles. Choreographer: Violet Holmes

Source: Former Rockette and others who worked with her.RCMH may not have kept such records, plus the dancer was light skinned. Dance ability, body type (height appearance) were the standard requirements. Red786 (talk) 22:27, 21 October 2025 (UTC) Reply

Not done: Hello Red786, this is the talk page to discuss Wikipedia's instructions for using its Visual Editor software, so you seem to have ended up at the wrong page. You may be looking for our article on The Rockettes. Day Creature (talk) 22:58, 21 October 2025 (UTC) Reply

Reducing huge images, and use of tables for layout

[edit ]
Latest comment: 11 days ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

I reduced about half a dozen giant screenshot images to a reasonable size, using param upright. The goals in this edit were:

  • eliminate the horizontal scroll bars at typical laptop screen widths;
  • keep the dropdown labels in the images legible, and roughly the same size;
  • maintain an apparent font-height in the image of about 90% of default page text font-height.

Given all the images at different resolutions, this may require some fine-tuning. I only got about half-way through; there are other huge images needing attention.

However, this is just the tip of a much bigger iceberg. Note that this makes many of these images much too small in the mobile app. This is because a non-standard approach is being used for image display by coding the images inside wikitables which defeats the wikimedia software, which does a good job of making images visible on both desktop and mobile. There are also wikitables which span section headers (!); that is, a subsection header is found inside a table, along with images and text content.

Basically, the entire page needs to be redone from top to bottom. I haven't examined this in detail yet, but my strong hunch is that tables/wikitables are being used for layout on this page, which is strictly a no-no. Scanning the whole page, I see no case a priori where a table is needed, as there is no tabular data (rows and columns of stuff) present. The tables should all be stripped out, and the page rewritten entirely, with simple [[File:Example screenshot.png|upright=1|caption, maybe]] statements for the images throughout, and then wikimedia will do the right thing with them, and all the images will appear properly on both mobile and desktop.
