Obang is a village in the Gambela Region of western Ethiopia. It is located northwest of Gambela, the regional capital, near the border with South Sudan.

Geography

Obang lies in the western lowlands of Ethiopia within Gambela Region. The surrounding area consists primarily of low-elevation plains and seasonal wetlands associated with the Baro River basin.

History

Obang gained public attention following the 2012 Gambella bus attack. On 14 March 2012, armed attackers ambushed a passenger bus near the village, killing 19 people and injuring several others. Ethiopian authorities attributed the attack to armed insurgents operating in the region.^[1]
