Railsware is a software development company that follows a product studio business model, developing its own SaaS products and providing consultancy services for startups and technology companies.[2] The company, which was founded in Ukraine, now has offices in Kyiv (Ukraine), Kraków and Warsaw, (Poland), West Hollywood (USA), and Dubai (UAE).

History

Founding and Early Development (2007–2011)

Railsware was founded in 2007 by Yaroslav Lazor,.[3] who later became the company's CEO. The company's name reflects its initial focus, blending "Rails" from Ruby on Rails—a pivotal framework in Railsware's early projects[4] —and "ware" from software. At that time, Railsware was among the early adopters, with some of its developers having experience in Ruby since those earlier days, making them well-positioned to harness its potential as it matured in the industry[3]

In 2009, Sergiy Korolov joined Railsware as Managing Partner, helping shape the company's strategic direction.[5]

Change of the Business Model (2011–2012)

In the early 2010s, Railsware decided to change its business model, moving away from software development outsourcing towards software consultancy and creating its own tech products, labeling the new approach as a 'product studio'.[6]

Railsware began studying successful Silicon Valley product companies, which inspired some of the company's practices in product management and development.[7] In 2012, Railsware's collaboration[8] with industry leaders like Pivotal Labs introduced advanced methodologies such as inception for product discovery and pair programming. These integrations, along with the launch of Railsware's first profitable project, allowed the formation of a dedicated product team[6] and materialized the company's transition from consulting to product studio.[9]

Product Studio (2012-Present)

Railsware functions as a product studio. Among others, Railsware contributed to the development of Calendly. Railsware has been supporting Calendly.[10]

In 2024, Railsware entered the Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies with a 323% 3-year growth.[11] Railsware didn't attract external funding as it reinvests its profits into the growth of its own products.[12] In 2023, the company announced it invested 10ドル million into its set of productivity tools, TitanApps.io.[13]

Products

Railsware has created three SaaS products that have over four million users in total.

  • Mailtrap.io (started in 2011) is an email delivery platform with over a million users.[14]
  • Coupler.io (started in 2020) is a no-code data integration platform with over 830K users and offers more than 500.[15]
  • TitanApps.io (started as Smart Checklist for Jira in 2017) is a set of productivity tools with over 2.2 million users.[16] It aims to improve task management within the Atlassian and monday.com ecosystems.[17]

The BRIDGeS framework

Aside from product development, Railsware designed a decision-making framework called BRIDGeS.[18] It offers a structured approach to tackle decision-making and problem-solving in product management.[19]
