Alien: Isolation 2 is an upcoming survival horror video game developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega.[1] It is a sequel to Alien: Isolation (2014) and part of the Alien franchise.[1] The game has been announced for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X and Series S.[2] [3]
Gameplay and premise
[edit ]Alien: Isolation 2 retains the survival horror approach of the original game.[4] Sega's synopsis describes the game as following a member of a survey team on a remote colony planet who investigates a crashed vessel, after which the settlement is threatened by a Xenomorph.[4] The game features a new setting, story and protagonist.[4]
The setting includes a storm-ravaged colony world and the Weyland-Yutani outpost Kurosaki Station.[2] [4] Players will explore both the planet's surface and the outpost while using tools, techniques and tactics to survive encounters with the Alien.[4] At Summer Game Fest, creative director Al Hope said the sequel would build on the original game's survival horror experience of escaping a persistent Alien.[2]
Development
[edit ]After the release of Alien: Isolation, sequel ideas were discussed within Creative Assembly. In December 2014, lead game designer Gary Napper said that the studio had discussed sequel concepts, and that a possible sequel could retain the first game's focus on a single Alien while expanding environmental interaction.[5]
In 2015, studio director Tim Heaton said that a sequel was possible, but questioned whether Sega would fund another expensive AAA project after Alien: Isolation sold about 2.1 million copies without becoming a major commercial breakout.[6] By 2017, a sequel was not in active development, and most of the original game's design team had left the studio.[7]
The studio announced that a sequel was in early development on 7 October 2024, the tenth anniversary of Alien: Isolation. The announcement was made by Al Hope, who had been creative director on the original game.[8]
In April 2026, Sega released a teaser trailer titled "False Sense of Security".[9] The teaser showed a dark interior, a rainy exterior area and an emergency telephone booth resembling the save stations from Alien: Isolation.[2] [10]
The game was formally revealed at Summer Game Fest on 5 June 2026, where its title, footage and platforms were shown.[3] [2] The reveal trailer showed a rainy planet and included dialogue referring to Weyland-Yutani.[1] Art director Ana Sopikova said the sequel would place the Alien on an "unsuspecting colony world", with areas ranging from colony interiors to storm-ravaged landscapes around Kurosaki Station.[11]
A since-removed job listing described the sequel as being built in Unreal Engine 5, according to GamesRadar+ .[12]
