Agentforce operates by providing AI agents that retrieve real-time data, build action plans for specific tasks, and execute those plans autonomously.[8] [9] [10] It is integrated with Salesforce's existing ecosystem, including Salesforce Data Cloud and Slack, and can be extended to external systems through MuleSoft integration capabilities.[11]

Agentforce was first announced at Dreamforce 2024,[12] and became generally available on October 25, 2024.[13] [14]

Agentforce 2.0 was announced in December 2024, including "a new library of pre-built agent skills‌".[15] Agentforce 2dx was released in March 2025,[16] and was followed by Agentforce 3.0, which added native Model Context Protocol support (MCP) and platform observability.[17] [18] Salesforce announced the last version of the platform, Agentforce 360, in October 2025.[6] [19]

Some insiders have said recent versions of Agentforce require significant technical skill to use.[20] Salesforce has also drawn criticism for reducing its customer support workforce from 9,000 to 5,000 employees through the deployment of AI agents.[21]
